Bain has changed this program. It used to be a spring program for first-year students from underrepresented backgrounds. Everything below follows Bain's current Consulting Kickstart page.
What is Bain Consulting Kickstart?
Bain Consulting Kickstart is a virtual series where sophomores hear from Bain & Company consultants and recruiters, ask questions, and learn how the firm's recruiting process works. It's one of Bain's exploratory programs, built to help candidates learn about consulting, get to know the firm, and connect with local offices and affinity groups.
Bain renamed its Freshman Leadership Accelerator (FLA) program Consulting Kickstart, and the old FLA page now lands on the Kickstart page.
What are the benefits of Bain Consulting Kickstart?
Kickstart gives you an inside look at how Bain recruits, from the people who run the process. Recruiters walk you through it, and consultants who recently went through it tell you what it was like. That's information you'd otherwise piece together mid-application.
- Answers from the source. You put your questions about Bain straight to recruiters and consultants.
- A head start on picking an office. You list your top three offices when you register, and the sessions show you what makes each one different: the work, the people, and the location. You can update your picks as you learn.
- Connections. You start building relationships with Bain's local offices and affinity groups.
- It fits your schedule. It's three virtual sessions in October, built around your classes.
That adds up to a foundation for your Bain recruiting. You walk into your first real conversation with the firm already knowing how it works.
Who is eligible for Bain Consulting Kickstart?
You're eligible if you're a second-year (sophomore) undergraduate at a four-year university in the United States or Canada. Those are the only criteria on Bain's page.
The page lists no demographic requirement, no required major, and no prior consulting experience. It also doesn't mention citizenship or visa status, only where you study.
If you're a first-year student, Bain's Kickstart page no longer lists a version for you. Bain's full list of programs shows what else is open, and each program page spells out its own eligibility.

When is the Bain Consulting Kickstart deadline?
The deadline is Monday, October 5 at 11:59pm Pacific. Applications are open now and the program is a three-part virtual webinar series held in October. You get the full session schedule after you register.
Bain hasn't posted dates for a future cycle, but check our consulting application deadlines tracker for updates.
How do you apply to Bain Consulting Kickstart?
You apply through Bain's Consulting Kickstart registration form. The form asks you to list your top three office preferences.
The program covers 15 offices: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Toronto, and Washington, DC. Start with where you might want to live after college. You can update your picks later in the recruiting process.
Earlier versions of this article listed a resume, cover letter, transcript, test scores, and video essays. Bain's current page confirms none of them. The registration form is the only step it describes, so follow whatever the form asks for.
What happens after Bain Consulting Kickstart?
Kickstart is built to give you a foundation for future Bain recruiting. The firm doesn't promise an interview or a spot in any other program. Earlier versions of this program led to an interview for BEL. Bain's current program makes no such claim, so don't count on it.
Here's where sophomores go next:
- BEL. Bain's Building Entrepreneurial Leaders (BEL) program started in 2009 for undergraduates. 2026 applications are closed and 2027 details are coming. Our Bain BEL guide covers how it works.
- CREW. Bain CREW for women (class of 2029) has an expected deadline of December 2026.
- The Associate Consultant internship. This is the role Kickstart points toward, and our Bain internship guide walks through it. The class of 2028 had deadlines of March 29 and August 31, 2026, so expect your class's deadlines somewhere between March and August 2027.
Conclusion
Kickstart shows you how Bain recruits. Black Belt gets you ready for the case and behavioral interviews that follow, with coaches who know what Bain looks for. With the internship deadlines roughly six to 11 months out, the time to start prepping is this fall.
