The Deloitte Online Assessment is one of the many examples of the growing importance of online exams in the consulting recruiting process. Given widespread access to the internet and computers, many firms are adding digital tests to weed out candidates and save time in the screening process. In addition, these digital assessments allow firms like Deloitte to get to know your decision-making ability and other key skills in a context outside of the resume.
We know – recruiting is already challenging enough and companies add another step?! The short story is – great news for firms and not-so-great news for candidates.
Like most parts of the recruiting process, preparation is key and can make these recruiting challenges manageable, including the Deloitte Online Assessment.
What is the Deloitte Online Assessment?
An incredible 60% of candidates are rejected from Deloitte during this stage of the recruiting process! If you want to have a solid chance of landing an offer at Deloitte, you’ll want to keep reading.
The slightly confusing thing is that the Deloitte Online Assessment isn’t just one test. There are actually multiple different exams assigned to you depending on the role and practice area you are applying for.
The common thread amongst them, however, is that the assessments are psychometric, a fancy way of saying that they assess your intelligence, skills and personality. Let’s go through each of the common ones.
The Deloitte Game-Based Assessment
To make things a little interesting (and hopefully fun), the first online test you’ll need to conquer after passing the initial resume screen is the Deloitte Game-Based Assessment.
Typically, 3 days after submitting your online application, you will be invited to play Cosmic Cadet. This game-based psychometric test is designed to examine personality traits, such as your perception of risk and your ability to innovate.
The results of your game give Deloitte an idea as to how you think and react in different scenarios. The results come back to you in a personalized feedback report, identifying where your opportunities for improvement and strengths lie.
The Deloitte Online Aptitude Assessments
The next part of the recruiting process includes the following:
- Deloitte’s numerical reasoning test
- Deloitte’s situational strengths test
- Deloitte’s verbal reasoning test
Deloitte’s Numerical Reasoning Test
Deloitte’s Numerical Reasoning Test is an untimed 21 question test that presents candidates with prompts that include tables, charts, and other types of data presentation. Your job is to quickly but effectively analyze the information provided and derive the right answers.
Fortunately, you don’t need to be a Math Wiz to do well. Basic review of ratios, chart analysis, and percentages should be enough preparation.
Use our free math drills to prepare.
Although there is no time limit, you are still expected to complete the test in a timely manner (while obviously getting as many right as possible).
If the number of giraffes in Congtin were reduced by 63%, what would the approximate ratio of giraffes to animals in the “Other” category be?
Deloitte’s Situational Strengths Test
Deloitte’s Situational Strengths Test helps recruiters see how you would react in situations that may occur in the actual work setting.
The good news about this test is that there is no preparation really required. You just need to use common sense when choosing your answers.
However, the test can still be challenging because there will be multiple answers that seem acceptable. Use your best judgment based on your experience and intuition.
We recommend choosing the answers that best align to Deloitte’s vision and values.
You work for an IT specialist for a large electronics retailer. You have been made aware of some glitches within the stock check system that manages and automatically requests deliveries to each store. Management is concerned as this issue has never occurred before and may result in over-stocking or no stocking at all for approximately 74 stores. You do not have much clarity on the cause of this problem. What do you do?
Statements: (Choose the best answer for each.)
A- Identify the error logs and explore the information within. Consider the timings of the problems and when they were reported, the location of the stores, and whether these particular stores have specific exclusive products in their stock. Share this information with your team to get a quick resolution.
Best / Worst
B- Contact the providers of the system and ask them to give guidance on what to do next.
Best / Worst
C- Ring up each store that is effected and ask them for a detailed log of what they experienced, such that any consistent pattern may emerge.
Best / Worst
D- Notify all stores via the central notification system that you plan to reboot the stock checking system, as this has previously worked with many machines that run similar software.
Best / Worst
Deloitte’s Verbal Reasoning Test
Deloitte’s Verbal Reasoning Test identifies how accurately and effectively a candidate can extract the relevant information needed from a passage of writing to answer questions. You can think of the test as similar to the Critical Reading section of the SAT.
What’s slightly different, however, is that the only answer choices are true, false, or cannot say (based on the information contained in the text). You have roughly 45 seconds to answer each question.
More needs to be done to capitalize on the power of the peer-to-peer networks that many music downloaders still use. A recent study found that regular downloaders of unlicensed music spend an average of $5.52 on legal digital music. This compares to just $1.27 spent by other music fans. The research clearly shows that fans who break piracy laws are highly valuable customers. It also suggests that they are eager to adopt legitimate music services in the future. One researcher pointed out that “There’s a myth that all illegal music downloaders are mercenaries hell-bent on breaking the law in pursuit of free music”. In reality hardcore fans “are extremely enthusiastic” about paid-for services, as long as they are suitably compelling, he said.
People who download unlicensed music tend not to buy legal digital music.

Deloitte Online Assessment. Did you know that over 60% of candidates do not pass this really critical stage in Deloitte’s recruiting process? Hi, I’m Jenny Rae Le Roux, the Managing Director of Management Consulted, I’m not an ex-Deloitte consultant, but I am ex-Bain, and I’m one of the worlds experts on consulting.
I know a lot about what Deloitte does, and I’m gunna walk you through some of things we know, now, about the Deloitte Online Assessment. Which is of course, a situation that is always unfolding.
Deloitte Assessments Overview
First of all, what is the Deloitte Online Assessment? Well, there are a couple of things to know about it. The most important, is that it isn’t just one test! It’s multiple different exams. From which, one or many can be assigned to you depending on the role, and the practice area you’re applying for.
The common theme amongst them however, is that the assessments are psychometric. What does that mean? Psychometric assessments are able to assess multiple dimensions of your personality. Including your intelligence, your skills, and your ability to adapt to challenging environments.
The Two Types Of Assessments
There are two main types of the Deloitte Assessment. The Deloitte game based assessment, and the Deloitte aptitude assessments online. So, what we’re going to walk through are each one of those types, what you can expect, get it, and if you need help with them, what do you do.
Game Based Assessment
First of all, in the Deloitte game based assessment, about three days after submitting your online application, you’ll be invited to play a game. And the game’s name is “The Cosmic Cadet”.
In this game, you will have a psychometric test, you won’t know it, it won’t say it, but the test is designed to assess personality traits, such as your perception of risk, and your ability to innovate. The results of the game, give an idea to Deloitte about how you think and react to difference scenarios. With different pressure, different stakes on the line.
The results come back to you in a personalized feedback report, so you actually get to see what they are, and it identifies your opportunities for improvement and strengths. So this is used in both the recruiting process, but probably more effectively, because you’re likely to implement it as a part of your training process, while you’re at Deloitte.
The Deloitte online assessments that are aptitude based, are a little bit different. These consist of three main ones, and I’ll walk through each one of them separately. The Deloitte numerical reasoning test. The Deloitte situational strengths test. And the Deloitte verbal reasoning test.
In Deloitte’s numerical reasoning test, there is an untimed test. Which is 21 questions, and it gives the candidate prompts, which include: tables, charts, and other types of data presentation. It is a basic review of some business analysis information. And if you know ratios, if you understand how to interpret charts, and you know percentages, then that should be sufficient preparation.
Honestly though, if you don’t know those things, you should prepare a little bit. And our Mental Math Course, is a fantastic way to do that. We have drills and prompts, that enable you to do everything you need for a numerical reasoning test. Right contained in that simple and very affordable package.
In addition, there is no time limit, as I mentioned before, but you are still expected to complete the test in a timely manner. So even though it’s not timed, in terms of they cut you off at a certain time, they’re looking for your time to be lower, rather than higher.
Situational Strengths Test
The second type of test is Deloitte’s situational strengths test. Deloitte’s situational strengths test is a test that helps recruiters see you act in situations that might occur in an actual work setting. So this is like an AI version of a behavioral interview. And it provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate common sense, intuition, and experience that you actually have in dealing with situations like this.
In many situations, there are multiple answers that seem acceptable. They are more concerned about people that answer the ones that are NOT the most reasonable, and we recommend choosing the answers that best align, not just to your intuition, but also to Deloitte’s vision and values. So if you get the Deloitte situational strengths test, go look at their core values on their website. There are going to be some things that are more important to them, even though there could be multiple right answers.
Verbal Reasoning Test
The final type of test is the Deloitte verbal reasoning test. And this test identifies how accurately and effectively you can extract relevant information, from a passage of writing. This really is a proxy to this critical reading section of the SAT, where you read a passage, and then you have to answer some questions about it. And the GMAT has something similar to that.
The difference however, is that the only answer choices are: “It’s true”. “It’s false”. Or you “Cannot say”. Which gives you a little bit of a tricky situation because you’re not answering a “yes or no” question, or a most likely situation. You’re just answering, Is it “True”, is it “False”, and “Maybe”. And the “Maybe” one is obviously going to be a natural choice in some situations, you have to very clear about the methods in “Maybe”.
In conclusion, Deloitte uses these tests because it’s an organization that is massive globally. Hundreds of thousands of employees. And therefore, even more than that, in terms of the people that they are using as prospects, they are used internally, they are used externally, and they’re used for their benefit, but also, to make sure you have a great match with the organization.
You shouldn’t work to over-prepare, but you definitely shouldn’t be under-prepare either. And if you’d like help getting practice for the Deloitte Online Assessments, and Deloitte interviews, we’d love to help you!
There’s no turning back, technology is upon us and consulting firms are now using it in their interview process. You can expect some sort of digital assessment or component during your Deloitte interview. Hopefully this article equips you with some knowledge to head into your interview with your eyes wide open and prepared for what you will experience. Now go crush your interview!
