University of Utah

University of Utah

The University of Utah is a public research university located in Salt Lake City, Utah — the state’s flagship institution and a major research hub. Its location gives students strong access to a fast-growing regional tech and business corridor (sometimes called the “Silicon Slopes”), and the university’s ties to regional industry leaders support robust internship and mentorship pipelines across the Mountain West.

David Eccles School of Business

Established in 1917 and located on the University of Utah campus, the David Eccles School of Business is one of the oldest business schools in the western United States, having awarded its first graduate degrees in 1933.

Well-rounded rankings

  • Full-Time MBA ranked in the top 40 nationally and top 10 in the West by U.S. News & World Report
  • Professional (part-time) MBA ranked in the top 20 nationally, No. 1 in Utah
  • MS Finance ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for value for money by the Financial Times, and top 55 worldwide for three consecutive years
  • Undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship curriculum ranked top 25 in the U.S. by the Princeton Review

Consulting as a named concentration

Eccles lists consulting as one of its formal departments and concentrations alongside finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship — giving consulting-focused students a clear academic track, not just extracurricular exposure.

Applied, real-world learning

Eccles is known for hands-on programs that mirror consulting-style work, including the Student Investment Fund, corporate capstone projects, and more than 30 experiential learning programs that include consulting projects and international experiences at the MBA level.

Employer partnerships

Eccles has strong employer relationships spanning tech, finance, consulting, healthcare, and public service, supported by a Career Management Center focused on internship placement and recruiting navigation, plus a strong regional alumni network.

Small, collaborative culture

Eccles’ MBA cohorts run small (50–60 students), and the school is known for what it calls an “abundance mentality” — a culture where students support each other rather than compete, which shows up in student feedback across multiple ranking sources.
