UC Irvine undergraduates can explore consulting through student-led organizations, hands-on client projects, and the university’s Division of Career Pathways. Students do not need to be business majors to begin building relevant experience: UCI’s career services are available to undergraduates across disciplines, and its student organizations offer opportunities to develop research, analysis, presentation, and professional networking skills.

Consulting clubs

180 Degrees Consulting at UC Irvine is a strong starting point for students seeking practical consulting experience. The organization provides pro bono consulting services to socially conscious organizations and nonprofits, primarily in Orange County. Its stated membership benefits include work on real client projects and experience in consulting, research, data analysis, and presentations. The Paul Merage School of Business also lists the organization among its undergraduate student organizations.

Irvine Consulting Group (ICG) describes itself as a student team offering hands-on client engagements, consulting resources, and professional development. Its directory listing says it aims to make consulting more accessible to students. The listing’s current registration status should be checked before students rely on it as an active recruiting or case-preparation resource.

Irvine Investment and Trading Group (ITG) is another organization to investigate if you are interested in consulting alongside finance. The Merage School describes ITG as serving students interested in high finance and consulting, with technical training, hands-on project experience, guest speakers, and networking opportunities. Students should confirm which activities are consulting-focused and whether membership is open to them.

Club offerings and recruitment processes can change. Ask current officers about application timing, project assignments, case practice, mock interviews, and employer or alumni events before building your recruiting plan around a club’s advertised activities.

Career services support for consulting

UCI’s Division of Career Pathways offers undergraduate advising, workshops, employer events, and online career-preparation resources. Students can use Handshake to search jobs and internships, register for career fairs and information sessions, and schedule career advising appointments.

For interview practice, UCI lists Big Interview, an online platform that combines instructional material with practice interviews. The Career Center also offers workshops on interview techniques, résumé and cover-letter development, networking, and job-search strategies. These general resources can support behavioral interviews; students preparing for consulting should supplement them with structured case practice through a relevant club or other dedicated case-preparation materials.

Undergraduates can also use Anteater Career Essentials, a free, self-paced Canvas course available to UCI undergraduate students from September 21, 2026, through September 10, 2027. Its modules cover career exploration, professional branding, networking, interviewing, and employer research. It is a general career-readiness resource rather than a consulting-specific program.

Recruiting timeline

Application windows depend on the employer, role, office, and internship or full-time track, so students should verify deadlines on each firm’s official recruiting site and monitor Handshake for campus-specific opportunities.

UCI’s Division of Career Pathways hosts career fairs during fall, winter, and spring quarters. Its 2026–27 schedule lists the Fall Career & Internship Fair on October 8, 2026, the Winter Career & Internship Fair on January 28, 2027, and the Spring Career & Internship Fair on April 8, 2027. These are general career fairs, not consulting-only events; check the employer list in Handshake before attending.

The university’s Campus Interview Program also allows employers to interview UCI students for actual jobs and internships during fall, winter, and spring quarters, including positions in consulting. Review available positions and eligibility requirements in Handshake rather than assuming a particular firm will interview on campus each year.
