Northeastern University
Northeastern University is a strong school to explore for consulting if you want to combine classroom learning with professional experience. Its co-op model gives students opportunities to build workplace skills before graduation, while D’Amore-McKim School of Business offers an undergraduate consulting minor and a student-run consulting organization. Consulting recruiting is not limited to business majors: Northeastern’s Consulting & Advisory Student Experience (CASE) is designed to connect students across majors with the industry.
Consulting placement
D’Amore-McKim’s Class of 2024 Undergraduate Employment Report says that 6% of graduates entered consulting, with a median salary of $85,000. The report covers graduates from August 2023 through May 2024; its overall outcome percentages are based on 1,031 graduates who provided post-graduation data, out of 1,209 total graduates.
The report’s list of organizations hiring D’Amore-McKim graduates includes consulting employers such as Accenture, AlixPartners, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Deloitte, EY, FTI Consulting, KPMG, L.E.K. Consulting, McKinsey & Company, and PwC.
For broader context, Northeastern’s university-wide Class of 2025 outcomes dashboard reports that 78.0% of undergraduates were employed full-time and 13.2% were pursuing additional education. The university reports an 84% knowledge rate for the Class of 2025.
Consulting clubs and academic options
Consulting & Advisory Student Experience (CASE) is Northeastern’s student-run undergraduate organization for students interested in consulting. According to D’Amore-McKim’s official club directory, CASE offers presentations, events, workshops, and other activities to help students understand the industry and develop consulting skills. It also aims to connect students from different majors with consulting professionals, faculty, and alumni, and to build relationships with firms. The directory does not specify a current case-competition schedule, so check the club’s latest announcements for its active programming.
Northeastern also offers an undergraduate Consulting minor through D’Amore-McKim. The 16-credit-hour program is open to all undergraduates and covers management and strategy consulting fundamentals, with electives that let students explore particular consulting skills and contexts. The school advises students to declare as early as possible and no later than the end of junior year. Check the academic catalog and speak with an advisor about requirements and how the minor fits your degree plan.
You do not need to major in business to prepare for consulting. CASE is explicitly intended to connect students across majors, and the consulting minor identifies students from business, STEM, and social sciences as potential fits. Build evidence of structured problem-solving through coursework, co-ops, student projects, and leadership roles.
Career Services support
Northeastern’s Employer Engagement and Career Design office publishes Consultingcase101, a resource offering free and premium case-interview preparation materials, practice cases, frameworks, and expert guidance. It is a useful starting point for building a structured practice routine.
The university’s Business, Finance & Consulting career channel is another place to explore career resources and industry information. Use university career services to confirm which advising appointments, interview practice options, and employer events are available to you, and whether access differs by college or program.
Northeastern’s co-op model can also help you build experience before full-time recruiting. Seek roles that develop skills relevant to consulting—such as analyzing data, researching a market, improving a process, working with stakeholders, and presenting recommendations. The university highlights co-op experience as part of its broader approach to career preparation, but a co-op placement should not be assumed to lead to a consulting offer.
Recruiting timeline
Track events and application deadlines through Northeastern’s career resources and each firm’s official careers page.
Start preparing before applications open. Research firms and offices, build relationships with alumni and consultants, and practice case interviews regularly. If you are pursuing a co-op, plan around its application and work schedule so that recruiting preparation does not become an afterthought. Confirm deadlines individually: consulting firms can have different application windows, and campus events may vary by year, role, and student eligibility.
