Culverhouse College of Business

The Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama gives undergraduates several ways to explore consulting, from business-focused coursework to a dedicated Management Consulting Academy and case competitions. Students interested in strategy consulting can build experience through structured preparation and opportunities to connect with consultants and alumni.

Consulting placement

Culverhouse publishes undergraduate career outcomes through its Career Center’s First Destination Survey, which tracks graduates’ outcomes within six months of graduation. The Career Outcomes page currently reports 96% positive outcomes and an 85% knowledge rate for the college overall. The college’s public-facing outcomes page lists employers including PwC and EY.

Consulting clubs and experiential learning

The main consulting-focused organization is the Management Consulting Academy (MCA), listed among Culverhouse’s student organizations. The college describes MCA as a program that helps undergraduates learn about strategy consulting and prepare professionally for the industry. Its approach includes learning about consulting work, understanding the recruiting process, preparing for complex interviews, building professional connections, and developing consulting-focused résumés.

MCA also offers exposure beyond campus. In October 2023, 14 students traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with consulting firms and network with alumni. The college reported that these visits helped students learn about the industry and gain firsthand exposure to consulting professionals.

Case competitions are another practical way to develop consulting skills. In November 2024, a Culverhouse-affiliated undergraduate team won the Darla Moore School of Business Consulting Summit and Case Competition. The team developed an international market-entry strategy and presented its recommendations to judges, including professionals from McKinsey & Company. In February 2025, a University of Alabama team also won the inaugural Management Consulted Case Competition World Cup. The university noted that the team included students from multiple academic backgrounds, illustrating that consulting preparation is not limited to business majors.

Culverhouse’s Business Honors Program is another potential source of applied problem-solving experience. Its official page describes consulting-based projects in which small teams work with nonprofit and for-profit clients to investigate business problems and develop solutions.

Career services support

The Culverhouse Career Center provides resources for résumé development, interview preparation, employer connections, and career exploration. Its student resources include résumé and cover-letter guidance, interview preparation materials, Handshake, career-fair information, and a link to Management Consulted case-interview resources. Students can also schedule career advising through the Career Center.

The Career Center says Handshake is the official recruiting platform for Culverhouse, where employers can post jobs and internships, register for events, and connect with students. It also describes classroom presentations, career fairs, coffee chats, and networking events as ways employers engage with the college. The University of Alabama hosts major career fairs in the fall and spring as well.
