McKinsey closes Associate and Business Analyst applications on August 11. First rounds usually start three to four weeks after a deadline, so if you applied, you could be looking at an interview within the next few weeks.
If your McKinsey interview is more likely two or three months away, the math still doesn't leave much slack. Real case proficiency takes six to eight weeks to build, and firms move once they've found who they want. Bain proved that this year, pulling a job posting in Texas weeks before its own deadline once enough strong candidates had applied. Two months can shrink to two weeks with no warning.
Most people spend that time practicing cases with friends who have never been through a McKinsey case interview and don't know how McKinsey interviewers think. Their untrained feedback is usually unhelpful at best, and harmful at worst.
