2nd Order Solutions is a boutique consulting firm built around one thing: credit risk. The firm works the entire credit lifecycle for banks, card issuers, and fintechs – acquisition strategy, credit line increases, collections, pricing, underwriting, credit policy, and model risk management. Recent work extends into generative AI risk models, alongside more traditional valuation modeling and due diligence.
2OS’s edge is technical. Consultants build the models themselves – XGBoost for pricing and credit risk are standard tools on a project, not vendor deliverables. Clients range from top four banks and regional card issuers to smaller lenders and high-growth fintechs, with some international work.
At around 60 people, 2OS runs differently than the MBB firms competing for the same finance and data science candidates. No travel is written into how the firm signs client contracts. Consultants don’t work past 50 hours a week. And with a firm this size, junior staff get client-facing work and direct access to leadership fast – not after two promotion cycles.

2OS Recruiting Process
- Apply through Handshake. No other application channel – search “2nd Order Solutions” on your school’s portal.
- Resume review. An AI tool screens out resumes below baseline first. Every resume that clears it gets read by two consultants from your target job family – Business Analytics or Data Science. Your resume gets evaluated by people who actually do the job, not a generalist recruiter.
- First round on Zoom. On-campus interviews are available at select schools.
- Final round in person. A full day – interviews across levels, lunch with the team, real exposure to how 2OS actually operates.
- A buddy for the visit. Every final-round candidate gets paired with someone who answers questions before, during, and after.
- Travel’s covered. Flights, hotel, meals – all reimbursed for the final round.
