For career centers and consulting clubs: if your students want a consulting internship in summer 2028, their first applications are due about 10 weeks into spring semester.
In 2026, McKinsey, Bain, and Oliver Wyman all closed their first internship applications in late March. No firm has announced changes for 2027, and our firm and school partners expect the same timeline.
(A quick note on years: "2028 recruiting" means students starting internships or full-time roles in 2028. Applications, prep, and workshops all happen in 2027.)
Ten weeks goes fast, especially for specialty master's students. Here’s how we’d map the consulting recruiting timeline across spring and summer, so your career center or club can plan around both the internship and full-time tracks.

Consulting internship recruiting timeline: January to June
Whether your career center runs programming or your consulting club does, plan a kickoff 1–2 weeks after winter break. That gives students enough runway before the late March deadlines.
Here's what students should be doing each month, and the MC workshop that goes with it:
- January – build the foundation. Students learn core frameworks and case structure, and start daily case math.
MC workshop: Consulting 101 (mid-January to mid-February). Run it alongside club kickoff. It covers what consulting is, how recruiting works, and how to use MC's case prep plan. - February to mid-March – start casing with peers. 2–3 live cases per week, with a goal of 20+ before the first deadline.
MC workshop: Case 101 (mid-February to March). Case structure and fundamentals. - Late March to April – rubric-scored mocks. Mock interviews with coaches and alumni, scored against MC's case rubric. Students lock in their fit stories.
MC workshop: Case 102 (March to April). Live case practice as first-round interviews begin. - May to September – polish and maintain. Weekly cases as later internship deadlines roll in.
MC workshop: Case 103 + Coaching (May to June). Advanced cases plus 1:1 coaching for students still in the process.

Get your spring workshops on the calendar before winter break

Full-time track: May to September
The earliest MBB full-time deadlines are expected in early to mid-July. So prep has to start in May, before students leave campus.
Over the summer, students run a self-guided plan until they're back in August.
- May to June – networking + refresh. Many students are interning by June, which is the best networking window they'll get before applying. They rebuild frameworks and case math alongside it.
MC workshop: Case 101 (May). Fundamentals before students leave campus. - June to July – casing with peers. Back to regular live case practice.
Summer: self-guided. Students work through MC tools and the 8-week plan on their own. - July to August – rubric-scored mocks. Mock interviews scored against MC's case rubric as MBB deadlines and first rounds hit.
MC workshop: Case 102 (August). Live case practice once students are back. - August to September – polish and maintain. Students stay sharp for Big 4 and boutique deadlines and later-round interviews.
MC workshop: Case 103 + Coaching (September). Advanced cases plus 1:1 coaching for students still in the process.
The 8-week prep plan and weekly habits
Students should start MC's 8-week case prep plan 8 weeks before their first deadline:
- Internship track: early February
- Full-time track: mid-May
The habits that matter most are the same on both tracks:
- 4–6 hours per week of focused prep
- Daily mental math, even 15 minutes
- Record yourself to catch filler words and gaps in structure
- Get outside feedback from peers, alumni, or coaches
