William's Bio

William Shields is a Managing Consultant in Bates White’s Mass Torts practice, specializing in bankruptcy, product liability, and insurance allocation. He also has experience in the firm’s Energy practice, focusing on renewable energy projects.
Previously, William worked in international development for U.S. federal agencies distributing foreign assistance. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines (2010-2012), managed food assistance projects at the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (2015-2019), and was a Senior Data Analyst at USAID’s Data Services department (2019-2021).
He holds an MA from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and a BA from American University.
