Detica was originally founded in 1971 as a research services provider that focused on data analysis for the U.K. defense sector. In the 80s, the firm diversified into the public sector, in the U.K. and internationally. Then, In the 90s, the firm shifted into IT consulting, with a primary focus on customer relationship management, and rebranded as Detica. Post 9/11, security became the key issue for public and private-sector organizations.

Detica is now known as a business and technology consulting firm that offers intelligence and security.  The firm collects and exploits intelligence that identifies and counters threats, either for the public’s well-being, as well as the security of the state or the daily operation of an enterprise. They also use their data gathering abilities for regulatory compliance and customer management. In 2008, Detica generated over sixty percent of its revenue from government clients, and the rest from commercial clients in the telecommunications, financial services, and media and technology markets. In 2008, Detica was also acquired by BAE Systems, which provides advanced aerospace and defense systems, based in the UK. Through this combination Deltica and BAE have advanced their expertise in intelligence, security and resilience.
