Case Study Prompt

The client is Hertz, a global car rental company present on the European and North American markets. In Europe, it is present in most EU countries but has not yet entered the Baltic countries.

Hertz has asked us to determine whether they should enter the Baltic (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania being here considered as one market) and, if so, what their entry strategy should be.

Give a brief description of the key areas you want to focus on to analyze the problem.

Case Study Overview

This is a Strategy& Market Study case study interview. Your client is looking to you to help them make the decision as to whether or not to enter the Baltic marketplace. Your job is to analyze the data and consider all possibilities to provide an informed recommendation.

We recommend using the Market Study (market entry) Framework to solve this case study, but don’t stop there. Allow yourself to work outside the framework and be creative in your approach, while showcasing your business experience.

There are no math exhibits in this case. This a beginner level case interview with a qualitative difficulty score of 2 out of 4. This case study is ideal for a first round interview at Strategy&.

Strategy& Interview Tips

What does Strategy& look for in its case interview candidates? Creativity problem solving and a knack for innovation.

Make sure you are comfortable working outside the box of certain frameworks and finding unique solutions to problems.

In this case, focus on a couple of things:

  1. Time yourself as you walk through the case (2min to build structure and 2min to present it; 2min each for a brainstorming question; 2min for final recommendation)
  2. Focus on finding one area you work on next time.
