Case Study Prompt

Your client, Pluton, is a leading manufacturer in the United States. There are three primary players in this market. Historically, the market leader had 30% market share, our client and the other player both had 20% market share.

Over the past two years, your client’s share has been falling and it wants to know why.

How would you structure this problem?

Case Study Overview

Pluton is losing their place in their current market and thereby losing profitability. In this Booz Allen Hamilton case study interview, your client is looking to you to look at the data, gain an in-depth understanding of their situation and identify why it is losing market share.

Are you preparing for a first round interview at Booz Allen Hamilton? We recommend using the Market Study Framework to solve this case, but also put your own spin on the solution. The best candidates blend frameworks and their own business acumen to build a custom framework that best fits the case.

This case has no math exhibits. The qualitative difficulty is 2 out of 4, making this an intermediate level interview you can expect to see in a first round BAH interview.

Booz Allen Hamilton Interview Tips

What is BAH looking for in a candidate? Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.

The emphasis with the firm is more on personality and communication, so make sure you focus on clearly communicating your process throughout the case.

In this case, focus on 2 things:

  1. Timing yourself throughout the case: 2min to build a structure, 2min to present it, 5min for math, 2min for brainstorming, and 2min for a conclusion
  2. Focus on your communication and out-loud structure as you run through the case

For out-loud practice with an expert, book an hour with an ex-MBB coach.
