Dear Kelvin,

I have recently graduated from my degree (from Australia) and will be pursuing a Master next month at UK.

From your articles, I see that internship experiences play an important part on landing a job at management consultancy. However, I do not have any of these experiences since it was only this year I have found out I am quite interested in working in the area of management consultancy.

In addition, I did most of the studies overseas which contributed another reason it is slightly more difficult to get an internship (due to Visa and etc) and the timing of internship.

Could you provide me with advises for my situation? I do not mind working in offices in East Asia (since I'm Asian) and America

In addition, I do notice that your information here are mostly based on the USA which in some occasion, might not be applicable to other countries.

Inspiring. I'll definitely take delaying graduation into consideration. I think that's true for all those who found out later on in their college years in b-school that they want to be a consultant. Certainly, it's an uphill battle for those of us who made plenty of career choices that don't have the consulting pedigree. The only way to overcome all of this is through networking, passion, and smarter choices from that point onwards with whatever skills and assets you have at your disposal.

Melissa, thanks for your comment. As with all advice on the site, there are exceptions to every rule. Congrats on landing those offers - definitely not an easy task, and it's great to hear that you did it in a slightly different manner. Perhaps you'd be interested in sharing your story with our readers? If so, please email me directly - products(at)mc(dot)com

Not very impressive given that I also had offers from Booz and Deloitte and attended Keene State College, and contrary to your advice, had a 2 page resume.

Is there any consulting firm that does not only want top Ivy league students? Are all of them this strict? I read through this and it sounds impossible. I have my MBA plus 7 years of work experience and I feel that I wouldn't even be looked at. Is it different for experienced professionals?
